Story

UR Library Services, a new international product family.

The challenge.

Three successful products – the scientific classification system RVK, and the two research tools EZB and DBIS – were developed side by side. Synergies between them, however, were not used.

With a project for a ground-up modernization of DBIS, a pathfinder for scientific databases, came a window of opportunity to professionalize and make the most of these products by bringing them closer together.

The approach.

An initial vision & mission workshop gave the team a clear idea of the future and what was needed to move towards it.

Analysis: A thorough market and competitor analysis yielded need for professionalization, examining current navigation patterns input for the new user interface, user interviews and personas gave clear requirements for the new DBIS.

Implementation: We constructued a future-proof software architecture along with a completely new and dynamic (meta)data model enabling a more international, more individualized and more scalable product.

Strategy: Out of three individual products, a competitive product portfolio brand was constructed – visually, as well as technologically. Once-only accounts, data exchange and shared features enabled an exciting future.

Got stuff done.

Giving 600+ clients and 20M+ yearly uses a future-proof brand and strategy.

The results.

The new version of DBIS offers a greatly improved search, clear navigation with optimized usability as well as a sophisticated data model that captures the requirements of its target group.

UR Library Services is a brand with all necessary equipment and strategies to scale internationally, consolidate efficiently and excites clients and users alike.

These ideas are what libraries are capable of, provided they dare to dream big and work hard.
