aubib, a collaboration portal for future civil servants.

The challenge.

Students and professors in Bavaria’s University of Applied Sciences for civil service (specifically the department for library and information science) had no possibility to efficiently exchange documents, messages, news and ideas.

Moreover, students criticized the missing possibility to share insights in the professional field to spark more interest in it.

The approach.

In a project team, we set out to establish a completely new platform to make university life more efficient, digital and personal.

Technology: aubib was based on the open source Content Management System TYPO3 with individual templating as well as several additional features implemented individually.

Marketing: The platform launch was accompanied by marketing material spread all over Bavaria, conference talks and articles as well as a student blog sharing opinions, interviews with experts or insights into daily life.

Tools: The heart of the portal were individual areas for each cohort integrating file exchange, messaging functionality or real-time collaboration tools.

Got stuff done.

Award-winning team work digitizing the state's future one student at a time.

The results.

The team’s work on the platform was awarded with the b.i.t.online Team Award Information Professionals and, more importantly, created a structure that made the training of future civil servants more efficient and digital.

The possibility to share insights into the professional field convinced many in the following years and allowed students to share forward-looking ideas, discussion-sparking conversations with visionaries, and invaluable thoughts on libraries and a digital public sector.

After all, information moves the world.
